Anderson Center

Why Accessible Housing?

There is a great need for accessible housing and surrounding communities: Per the Center for Disease Control and Protection’s Disability and Health Data System, 11% of adults in the United States have a mobility disability. The 2020 U.S. Census shares that 16.5% of Americans are over the age of 65. These numbers will increase as baby boomers get older. And yet, the majority of housing stock and community infrastructure is inaccessible to people with mobility disabilities. People with disabilities and seniors need knowledge, advocates, and builders to help ensure that these resources are available.

About the Anderson Center

The Anderson Center for Accessible Living allows us to provide this much-needed training and information on accessible housing and communities to several groups: people with disabilities and seniors, families and caregivers, social service and housing professionals, and community organizations.

Note: Anderson Center activities are currently being provided upon request and as staff capacity allows. Download a service list here for other resources that may be helpful on your home modification and accessibility journey.
