Mila’s Story
Mila has called Lake Vistas home since 2017. Mila has a physical mobility disability and utilizes a wheelchair, walker, and scooter – depending on her day’s activities. She lives with her orange tabby, Roscoe, and loves her home. “The minute I care here, I fell in love.”
Many days, you will find Mila and Roscoe sitting at the window watching the chipmunks, deer, squirrels, and the occasional skunk roam around the building. Other days, she and other Vistas tenants share food, talk, and build a community together, providing support and friendship. No matter the adventure Mila has each day, her goal is to make people smile, laugh, and spread happiness.
Having lived in Lake Vistas for almost a decade, Mila enjoys the independence the Vistas give her and the ability to set her life up in the best way that works for her. “I don’t want to be anywhere else. The location is convenient, everything I need is right here; the lake, the library, and it’s easy to get in and out of my apartment.”
When Mila and Roscoe aren’t watching the local wildlife from their window, you can find Mila playing Merge Dragons on her phone, watching TV or something on YouTube - sci-fi is one of her favorite genres -, reading, chatting with her neighbors, or tending to her garden and plants.
When asked what advice she would give to someone looking into the Vistas Apartment Communities or looking for accessible housing, she said, “Go to the place first and ask yourself, how does it feel to you?”
MaxHousing and Lake Vistas is dedicated to providing accessible housing and is generously supported by donors and sponsors.
